The Hampshire Regency Dancers proudly present The Ode “To Autumn” Ball Winchester, Hampshire Saturday 14th September 2019
"Tis the witching time of night", Orbed is the moon and bright, and all the stars shall take flight, to attend our Autumn Ball tonight...Romance and Rigadons...Mist and Mellow Fruitfulness....
To honour September 1819 when Keats composed “To Autumn” following one of his walks whilst enjoying an extended stay in Winchester, the Hampshire Regency Dancers are delighted to invite you to this year’s ball.
Our Dancing Mistress, Mrs Valerie Webster, will lead the evening with dances of the period. The music provided by the ever-popular Green Ginger.
The ball will be held in Winchester’s magnificent Guildhall. Our Balls are historically informed, but adapted for the enjoyment and convenience of modern Regency Dancing enthusiasts.
The Ode “To Autumn” Ball is aimed at experienced dancers, but guests of all abilities are welcome. However, our caller will be expecting a reasonable level of ability from guests, so inexperienced dancers might struggle. If you would like to gain experience of period dancing in advance of the Ball, you are welcome to attend our practice sessions in the Winchester area or, if you would like assistance in finding an alternative group near you, contact us and we will help you find one.
The workshop on the afternoon before the Ball will be used to walk through and practice the dances. Attendance is optional, but strongly encouraged, even for experienced dancers.
